Welcome to the Delaware Association for the Blind!
Mission
Entering our 64th year of service, DAB has served thousands of blind and visually impaired individuals throughout Delaware in many capacities.
Our mission is to improve the quality of life for blind and visually impaired children and adults in Delaware through a variety of education, counseling and recreation programs. These programs are offered on our beautiful 10-acre campus located in Wilmington, as well as throughout the state of Delaware in partnership with the Division of the Visually Impaired, and in collaboration with other human service organizations and community groups.

DAB Headquarters is Relocating
DAB is excited to announce that we will soon be relocating our Headquarters (which includes our Administrative Offices, Peer Support Offices and Low Vision Products Center) from 800 West Street in downtown Wilmington to our main campus at 2915 Newport Gap Pike. This move will allow DAB additional space to grow and expand programming to serve our community even better! As of September all of our regular programs are being offered in the newly renovated Landis Lodge Building including music appreciation, arts and crafts, bingo and peer support training. Many people have commented on how beautiful and easily accessible our new building is. There are no more stairs to climb and complete wheelchair accessibility, as well as ample parking and safe pathways to the building from the parking lot. If you are on our mailing list, please be on the lookout for a postcard about the move and our new address. This will be mailed out shortly.
DAB Board of Directors Updates
DAB is excited to announce the appointment of two new members to our Board of Directors, Michael Yontz and Richard Merriwether. Mr. Yontz, who resides in Newark, brings to DAB his strong knowledge of technology as the manager of a software configuration team for Bank of America. Mike is also a member of the International Powerlifting Association, a University of Delaware Adaptive Sports Clinic Instructor and is a member of the United States Association of Blind Athletes (PA and DE chapters).
Newly appointed as the First Vice District Governor, Mr. Merriwether, who resides in Rehoboth, will act as a liaison between DAB and District 22D of the Lions Club International. Mr. Merriwether is also a member of the Rehoboth Beach Lions Club. Mr. Neal Davis, current Vice President, will be departing from the board. We would like to offer Neal our gratitude for his service to DAB. We are always happy to consider new board members who have an interest in serving the blind community. If you are interested, please contact Ellen Spoehr, Executive Director, at 302-655-2111.
The Delaware Association for the Blind is a United Way Affiliate Agency, a member of the Delaware Association of Nonprofit Agencies and a member of the National Council of Private Agencies for the Blind and Visually Impaired (now renamed VisionServe Alliance).
